Cleft Lip and Cleft Palate
Correction of Clefts. This procedure involves the closing of the cleft, and the repairing of the cleft lip, which is usually associated with the cleft palate, and a procedure our Maryland cleft lip surgeons and Maryland cleft palate surgeons have years of experience performing.
Cleft lip and cleft palate may occur separately, or together. Surgical repair of cleft lip is typically performed at about 3 months of age. The palate is usually repaired at 9 to 12 months of age.
Surgical repair of cleft lip and palate is a highly specialized skill. Our Maryland cleft lip surgeons and Maryland cleft palate surgeons have each performed hundreds of these procedures, and have thus been awarded privileges to perform these procedures at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, as well as the Greater Baltimore Medical Center (GBMC).
Dr. Byrne is the medical director of the Greater Baltimore Cleft Lip and Palate team. This multidisciplinary team provides personalized expert care to children born with facial deformities. The standard of care today mandates a multidisciplinary team approach.
